Commercial Finance Manager (1398)

About the team

Central to our success as a Firm are of course our talented lawyers, but they couldn't achieve their results without the ongoing support from our Finance Team who have an essential role to play in growing the business and maintaining our financial performance.  At Womble Bond Dickinson, we know that great commercial decisions are driven by great insight.  We're looking for a Commercial Finance Manager to join our team and help shape the commercial success of the firm.

About the role

This is a highly collaborative role, sitting at the heart of the business and partnering closely with Business Group Heads, Partners and senior stakeholders. You'll bring together financial expertise, commercial awareness and strong relationship-building skills to help drive profitability, support strategic decision-making and influence the way we price and deliver our services.

You'll act as the key finance contact for your allocated Business Group, developing a deep understanding of its performance, opportunities and challenges. Whether you're supporting Partners with pricing and fee negotiations, leading forecasting discussions, reviewing client profitability or presenting commercial insights to senior leaders, you'll play a pivotal role in helping the business make informed decisions.  A significant part of the role will focus on pricing strategy. Working closely with Partners, you'll help scope matters, model different approaches and provide clear, data-driven recommendations that balance client expectations with commercial objectives. You'll also help embed best practice across the firm, using performance data and emerging technologies to continually enhance our pricing capability.

Alongside this, you'll lead budgeting and forecasting activity for your Business Group, helping stakeholders understand performance, identify opportunities and develop meaningful action plans. You'll be comfortable challenging constructively, influencing senior stakeholders and translating complex financial information into practical, commercial insights.

About you

We're looking for someone who has built their career within commercial finance, business partnering or pricing, ideally within a law firm or professional services environment. You'll bring strong analytical skills, experience of financial modelling and a genuine interest in understanding what drives business performance. Just as importantly, you'll be someone who enjoys building trusted relationships and working collaboratively with colleagues at all levels.   While a professional accounting qualification would be beneficial, we're equally interested in hearing from individuals who can demonstrate significant relevant experience. Advanced Excel skills are essential, and experience with tools such as Power BI or Qlik would be an advantage.

To be successful in this role, you'll need as minimum:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a commercial finance/business partnering role, within a law firm or professional services organisation.
  • Significant pricing experience within a law firm or professional services organisation.
  • Proven ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Expertise in financial modelling.
  • Proficient in Excel. Power BI and Qlik skills are a plus.
